Yemassee Police Award Officer of the Year 2022

Chief Alexander and Sgt. Cook
Officer of the Year

Several weeks ago on a cool October night, the Yemassee Police Department received an emergency call for service reporting a man with a gun at the Loves Travel Stop located at 409 Yemassee Highway. Officers Christa Hoffman and Corporal Richard Pope responded and arrived on the scene within three minutes of the call being received. The officers entered the store and observed a distressed male pointing a firearm at a cashier. Officer Hoffman and Corporal Pope handled the situation with respect and understanding and succeeded in the individual dropping the weapon and being taken into custody without incident and without any force required. These dedicated Law enforcement officers exercised superb professionalism and tact which resulted in a de-escalated situation and above all, no injuries. The Yemassee Police Department has awarded both officers; Christa Hoffman and Corporal Richard Pope as “Officer of the Year” for 2022 for their exemplary service shown that night and every night they serve our Town.
