Planning Commission

The Planning Commission, is a state-mandated appointed body who is required to:

  • Draft, review, and propose amendments to the Yemassee Comprehensive Plan, Town Zoning Ordinance, and the Development Standards Ordinance

  • Approve or deny applications related to land development and street naming/renaming

  • Review and make recommendations for proposed annexations or zoning map amendments

  • Propose policies and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the Town’s planning efforts

  • Determine appeals from administrative decisions of the Unified Development Ordinance Administrator in the administration of land development regulations per the South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act of 1994, Section 6-29-780(A)

The Planning Commission is chartered in Chapter 5, Article VII, as a five-member body appointed by the Mayor & Town Council. Membership of the Commission is comprised of a representative from each Town Zone (A, B, C & D) and an at-large member. Eligibility for membership on the Commission requires at least one of the following; residency in town, freeholder of real property in Town or a Town business owner. The Planning Commission follows a set of adopted Rules of Procedures for its meetings.
