Suspect Arrested in Domestic Violence Incident; Children Safely Reunited

(December 29, 2025 | Yemassee, SC) — The Yemassee Police Department confirms the arrest of a suspect in connection with a domestic violence incident that occurred early this morning within the Town of Yemassee. Charlie E. Simmons of Yemassee was located with the help of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Richland County Sheriff's Department, and is in custody at the Hampton County Detention Center (HCDC) on domestic violence 1st degree, high and aggravated charges.
Key Facts:
Around 4:00 a.m., officers responded to a subject seeking to meet with police regarding a prior incident involving his mother and her boyfriend. The complainant advised the boyfriend was assaulting his mother and he fired a shot to defend his mother. After Simmons was shot, he fled the scene with his two minor children.
The Yemassee Police Department was assisted by SLED and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in locating Simmons; who was found in the Columbia area near Krispy Kreme off Clemson Road. The two minor children are safe with their mother. The suspect sustained a single gunshot wound to the throat and was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Yemassee Police Department, with SLED and RCSD, continues to investigate. The safety and privacy of the victims, including minors, remains a priority. No additional information will be released at this time.
