The Town of Yemassee is sharing this press release on behalf of the National Weather Service Forecast Office Charleston.

Feb 15th, 2023 Yemassee, SC:  Brian Haines, the Meteorologist-in-Charge of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Charleston, SC presented Mr. Tom Risse of Yemassee, South Carolina a 35 year Length of Service Award for his dedication and service in the Cooperative Weather Observer Program. This site began recording data April 1st 1883. Tom is a big part of the reason the Yemassee COOP site is so successful-with 140 years of records! The site is currently located at his residence, and previously it was at the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center. Thank you-Tom, for your incredible dedication to providing timely and accurate daily temperature and precipitation measurements for South Carolina and our nation!
