census day 2020

The Town of Yemassee along with City of Beaufort, Town of Port Royal, Town of Bluffton, Town of Hilton Head, Beaufort County and the City of Hardeeville will participate in a region wide Census Day, Wednesday, September 9 in an effort to increase the Census response rate for the region.

The deadline for U.S. Census is September 30.

As of 8.30.2020, the response rates are as follows:

  • United States, 64.9%
  • South Carolina, 58.8%
  • Beaufort County, 48.6%
  • Hampton County, 39.1%
  • Town of Yemassee, 38.6%

Why the Census is important?

State and federal money doesn’t follow the need, it follows the numbers.

The U.S. Census is the one-stop-shop data source for how communities are funded through state and federal programs, how lines are drawn for U.S. House of Representatives, South Carolina State House and municipal government seats and how economic development programs are also funded.
