Town Receives $157,500 Grant to address Abandoned Buildings in Yemassee

The Town is pleased to announce the award of a $157,500 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the purpose of addressing the many blighted and dilapidated buildings in the Town. With the assistance of this grant and a $17,500 contribution from the Town, it is anticipated that 15 homes will be demolished. These homes are in a state of disrepair and when completed, we believe the property values in these various neighborhoods will reap the rewards. The Town is in the process of completing environmental impact studies in the areas these homes will be demolished and upon completion, a bid package will be issued. It is anticipated that this project will start in the Spring and will be finished within two years. Upon demolition of the structures, the individual property owners will assume responsibility for the maintenance of the lot.
