Applicants sought for Yemassee Town Council appointed committees

The Town Council of the Town of Yemassee is seeking applicants for appointments to its boards and commissions. The most immediate need for new appointees exists on the: Beautification Commission, Municipal Election Commission, and the Section 504 Committee.

The Town welcomes applications for all boards and commissions regardless of current vacancies. Applications are kept on file for five years for consideration. If you are interested in being considered for appointment, please complete the attached application and submit the completed form to the Town Clerk either in person at the Town Hall, or by mail to Town Clerk, Town of Yemassee, P.O. Descriptions and requirements for each committee that currently have vacancies are also below.

Beautification Commission:

The Beautification Commission is a five (5) member committee tasked with promoting compliance with all environmental projects of the Town and to determine and promote ways for making its highway approached thereto and the surrounding areas more attractive and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The Committee may make recommendations to Town Council for potential areas of improvement and suggest projects to enhance the beauty of the Town of Yemassee.

Municipal Election Commission (MEC):

The Municipal Election Commission is a five (5) member committee that is tasked with conducting municipal elections. Members are required to conduct, supervise, and manage municipal, special, and general elections, certify election results, and hear any protests. All members of the commission must be a registered voter of the Town of Yemassee and must remain a registered voter for the duration of their membership to remain eligible. Per State law (S.C. Code 5-15-90), each member serves a six-year staggered term. Meetings of the Municipal Election Commission are scheduled, as necessary.

Section 504 Committee:

The Section 504 Committee is a five (5) member committee that routinely evaluates Town properties for conformance with ADA regulations, and when necessary, drafts a transition plan to provide a roadmap for the buildings to become compliant. The Section 504 Committee evaluates municipal property only at the direction of the Town Council. Meetings are typically held quarterly or more if necessary.
