Below are some of the most common questions we receive at the Town Hall regarding Annexation. If your question is not answered below, contact the Town Hall and we will answer it for you.

What is Annexation?

Annexation is how the Town of Yemassee, or any City or Town expands its corporate boundary. Individual property owners or communities may petition for Annexation if they are contiguous (or adjacent to) the Town of Yemassee corporate limits.

My house has a Yemassee address, aren't I already in the Town of Yemassee?
No! Zip codes across the country do not necessairly follow jurisdictional boundaries and Yemassee is no different. In fact, our ZIP code 29945, spans four counties while the Town limits only occupy a small portion of two counties.

How do I Annex into the Town of Yemassee?
First, you need to ensure that your property or community is contiguous to the current Town of Yemassee corporate limits. You may verify this by contacting the Town Hall or by checking your County's GIS website.

Isn't it more expensive if I Annex into the Town?
Most homeowners who Annex will notice a minimal increase on their property tax bill which will cover Town of Yemassee services such as Police, Public Works, Street lighting and community improvement projects. Many find they will save with discounted town services such as municipal trash pick up, right-of-way maintenance along the roadway in front of your house and

Will I have to pay two tax bills if I Annex?
No, you will pay County and City taxes, but you will still only receive one tax bill. If you are a Beaufort County resident you will see a line added for Town of Yemassee operations. If you are a Hampton County resident you will see a line underneath the county tax rate that says Yemassee with the current mileage rate.

Will my School District or Attendance Zones change from Annexing?
No, school district boundaries are independent of the Town boundary. For more information on attendance zones, you may visit the Beaufort County School District, Hampton District 1 Schools or the Jasper County School District.

Will I Lose Any Services by Annexing?
No, the Town of Yemassee is a full-service town government. In fact, as a Town resident, you will see an increase in available services.
